Audiogon offers added security for your account with 2-Factor Authentication. It is not required, but we highly recommend as it is the most effective way of stopping unauthorized access.
What is 2FA?
2-Factor Authentication, or 2FA, adds an additional layer of authentication in addition to your login credentials. Quite literally, a second factor.
By associating a known device that can receive a one-time randomly generated code, it makes it exponentially harder for someone to gain access to your account—even if they know your password.
We currently only support SMS-based 2FA, but plan to expand to other methods of 2FA like biometrics and authenticator apps.
How Do I Set Up 2FA?
Audiogon requires a verified phone number to buy and sell on the marketplace. The reason for this is that most carriers require a phone number for shipping/tracking purposes, plus it deters fraudulent accounts.
Once you add and verify a phone number to your account you will see a green checkmark confirming your phone number verification.
Then you'll be able to enable 2FA by simply toggling it on. Then click the green "Update Account" button to save your selection. That's it.
Do I Have To Put a Code In Every Time I Log in?
Yes or no. Depending on your personal preference or the device you are accessing your account from, you can either elect to enter a code every time you log into the site, or you can tell us to remember you for 30 days. During that time, we will not prompt you for a 2FA code when you log in.
Example of 2FA prompt upon logging in. We do not recommend clicking "Remember Me" if you are using a public or shared device.
Do I Have To Put a Code In Any Other Time I Use the Site?
We do require a 2FA code input when accessing sensitive account information like updating your email, address, etc. This is to ensure that it is in fact you who is making these changes.
I Selected "Remember Me" But I Still Get Asked For a Code?
The "Remember Me" option is cookie-based and includes hardware fingerprinting like Device, OS, Browser, etc. If you access the site from a different browser, or have ad blocking or other private browsing software enabled that clears or blocks cookies, this will interfere with our ability to bypass 2FA at login, because we can't verify you are using a previously whitelisted device.
I've Dismissed The 2FA Dialog But It Shows Back Up?
Similar to above, if you have dismissed our suggestion to set up 2FA and not show the dialog again but it is presented to you again, it is most likely due to accessing the site from a different browser/device, or private browsing/ad blocking software.
